snowboards!

last night i was looking at snowboards, because i know the end of snowboard/ski season is dawning upon us. i just learned how to snowboard in january and i absolutely fell in love with it. yeah, i'm not super amazing yet, but from what i've learned, i can experience enough of the rush to truly appreciate the sport. plus, a few of my friends ski and snowboard. my sister skis, so it would be awesome to go to a mountain with her sometime during the season.

here are my top picks so far, in order from most to least favorite:

1.) 2010 Cadence Arbor (day of the dead woman....LOVE this one. it's gorgeous)

2.) Lamar Fascination (i love the peacock)

3.) LTD Betty Snowboard (the roses and birds are cool, but the colors seem a bit dull...)

4.) Lamar Storm (love the graphics and the goldfish)

hopefully i can go get a board soon!

weather's gettin' better

it seems like my mood has gotten a lot better lately...i have not felt this content and pleased in a long time...such a relieving feeling! art seems to be looking up for me lately too. winning that $500 scholarship last weekend was a real boost, and nowwww......

AHH! guess what! i applied for an art studio internship this summer at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, and today they sent me an email saying they want to schedule an interview with me next week!!!!! AHHH i am so glad! i would really love to work there, even if it is unpaid. i love working with children and seeing their minds grow, especially through doing artwork.

i am still waiting on the American Greetings Internship in Cleveland. the application due date for that one is tomorrow, so if i hear from them at all, it would be within a couple weeks....yikes. part of me thinks i am very deserving for that internship, but part of me feels it is extremely competitive and that they may pick someone with Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator experience, which i have yet to learn. hopefully digital illustration in the fall will help me with that.

oh! speaking of, i registered for my classes for next semester:

MONDAY
Figure Illustration 8:30-11:20
Digital Illustration 1:30-4:20

TUESDAY
Intermediate Illustration 3 9:15-12:05
Personality Psychology 2:05-3:20
History of Western Art II 3:30-4:45

WEDNESDAY
(same as monday)

THURSDAY
(same as tuesday)

i love that art history is right after psychology, and in the next room over too! i am taking six courses this semester because i am a psychology minor, and an extra class was needed. i am kind of relieved that i am not taking any ceramics (or "messy" classes as we like to call them)...this is the only semester where i need to take three studio classes that are all illustration. i sitll need to take an extra three studio classes that do not have to do with my major...i am thinking maybe intro to photo, relief printing (which is linoleum and wood cuts, which i would love to do), and the other is still up in the air...maybe clay sculpture so i can do plaster molds? that would have to be senior year though....still thinking about it.

it's just so strange to think that there are only 20 CLASSES left of my college career. it's insane that im literally almost halfway done with college ::gulp::

well i am off to art history in a little, where i will most likely fall asleep...i almost always do.

tomorrow is the field trip! i hope i get to take a lot of pictures!

rainy day number 2...i am as soggy as a seahorse

today's rain is even worse than yesterday's. the hog river on campus is seriously overflowing...walking by it sounds like a legit waterfall or something. today is the kind of day where you need to change your jeans once or twice to a dry pair because the rain just soaks every inch of you. thank goodness my sister sold me her unwanted rainboots on sunday....i would have insanely soggy feet if i did not have them.

tomorrow after that is zumba in konover at 7:30pm, and i've really been wanting to try zumba for a long time...hopefully it would only be an hour long because i have to make clay with hailey at 9pm.....yikes tomorrow might be more jam-packed than i had intended! ceramics is getting fun again, especially since i have the thumbs-up from matt to create extra bowls/mugs and etc. in my spare time to get fired....hopefully i will be able to put them all in the soda fire. i believe a soda fire kind of gets the same unexpected results as a wood fire, where the flames leave marks and can make your clay even look metallic....i just glazed a bunch of my mugs today..let's hope they come out better than the bowls, because on the insides of everyones' bowls a lot of the glaze shrunk and revealed a lot of bare clay, which isn't stupendously good to eat out of...

tomorrow i get to register for classes! i am really excited about my schedule....i will post my classes tomorrow once i have signed up for them.

thursday we have an illustration department field trip to the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA as well as to the Clark Art Museum. i'm excited to go and be with the illustration kids, everyone's pretty nice. then my dad will come pick me up after i get back on campus because i need to go home for easter weekend! we are having easter at our house, so there is a lot of preparation needed, especially making sure the house looks neat and tidy. that will probably be my job haha...

bye bye,
allie

rainy day

wish i was here in ogunquit at the beachmere!

today is super rainy. the weather last week was pretty nice, a taste of the 60's and 70's....april is almost here...i'm glad because i will finally be able to wear my new easter outfit i have been waiting to wear. i got this neat silk and tulle skirt from forever 21 that i have been really wanting to wear...it's one of those skirts that you can only really wear with a specific color shirt, because the skirt is color block.

i am about to hand in my illustration portfolio to be reviewed in the sophomore review process...it's to determine whether or not our work is "up to par" with the program's demands...i think i will be fine, yet i always allow room for improvement.

speaking of illustration portfolio, i won a $500 scholarship this weekend at the Connecticut Art Director's Club Student Conference for my good work. i was really really excited...the awards ceremony is in june...i really hope i can go. i hope i can do a lot of things this summer....

the reason i say that is because i have applied for a few internships...my main picks are at American Greetings in Cleveland, Ohio, as well as the Eric Carle Museum of Children's Book Art in Amherst, MA. i am still waiting to hear from them. the Eric Carle deadline was the 20th of march and the American Greetings one is april 1st. i REALLY want the one in ohio, because it is like a dream job for me. if i happened to go to ohio, however, i would miss out on a lot of fun stuff this summer....getting to see ringo starr, going to cirque du soleil, going to cape cod with my boyfriend jon and his family, and just being able to get to know jon more in general.

the one thing i really look forward to is the end of the summer, when my family and i get to go to ogunquit, maine. we have been going every year of my life and it is one of my absolute favorite places. we stay at the beachmere, which is a beautiful hotel next to a jetty into the ocean. i really hope jon will get to come with us, too, because i love to share this place with people i really care about....

well thats enough for now, i guess.
